My primary weekend plan for Chicago was the WLSC pre-party on Friday night and the main event on Saturday.  However, I was prepared to do other things because I know there must be an opportunity to step every night in Chicago and that’s what I did.  These aren’t the same spots I visited years ago and I was happy to hit some new spots.

The Main Weekend Events

  1. Friday Night at The Tinley Convention Center: The WLSC pre-party was pretty damn awesome.  It was “stepper sharp” – a dressy, classy affair and I saw familiar faces from many other cities here and was on the floor all night.
  2. Saturday Night at The Main Event at Tinley Convention Center: You can’t miss this.  It’s the whole reason for the weekend!  It’s a great chance to meet new people and the opportunity to rest while you watch some of the best and boldest.  Your feet will beg for it.  I enjoyed the after party as well.  The gentlemen were so handsome and looked oh so pristing.

Get to the Master Class for Chicago Steppers

  1. Saturday Morning at 2016 Hamilton Park: Mid morning at Donnie Davis’ WLSC All Star Steppin’ Class with a rotation of master instructors mostly from the heart of Chicago.  There was so much to learn, plenty of free food and a grab your partner contest for a chance at bragging rights and a prize.  Did I mention this class was 4+ hours long?  I haven’t received that wealth of instruction at that price anywhere.  Thanks Donnie Davis!

Dance with the Locals and Out of Town Crowd

  1. Saturday Afternoon at The 50 Yard Line:  Then, the 50 opens at 5 p.m. and goes all evening and night.  Yes, I got a little caught up here and thus my late arrival to the WLSC.  It’s quaint, close quarters and packed.  I was surprised that a lot of out-of-towners were going to be here for the night instead of the contest.  They didn’t want to sit through hours of watching the contestants step.
  2. Sunday Mid-Morning at Hot Shots Bar in Calumet Park: Finally, another hot stop for a day party.  I saw a surprise live performance.  They had free food “again” and great bartenders and servers working the tables.  This place made me not want to leave and it was my last stop before rushing off to my flight to leave.
