Have you heard the phrase “Dance like no one’s watching?” That’s what I call naked steppin’. I watch some of these Chicago steppers dance, to me they are naked. They leave it all on the floor. It’s just the man, the woman, and the music – unveiled and really enjoying a song. When I watch some men and women step Chicago-style, I can tell that song playing is their jam because I see them dancing naked and unconstrained. The first thing I want to know is “What’s the name of that song?” and “What’s the story in that song for that stepper?”

Naked steppers relish and enjoy every note, every beat. Although newer steppers are on a count when you dance Sometimes someone on the set starts recording and we’re lucky to capture and witness moments like these. Here are some of my favorites that I have seen that I enjoy watching. When I hear that song play again that couple immediately comes to my mind and I feel I know one of those steppers’ favorite songs.

Andre Blackwell and Bonita Gower-Williams
