Maiy’s Miracle, a non-profit volunteer organization, launched a fundraiser in October to raise $20,000 to support DIPG Research. Proceeds benefit Lucille Packard Childrens Hospital to fund the Maiyanna Marie Antoinette Clemmon’s-McCarthy DIPG Research Student Scholarship. The Maiy’s Miracle Fundraiser has received $16,860 in donations so far and are ~$3,200 short of their goal. I am writing to every stepper to ask for each and all to contribute a donation great or small.
Maiy’s Miracle
For those who don’t know her, Mycah Clemmons, the founder of Maiy’s Miracle is Maiyanna’s mother. She is one of our newer, fellow steppers that I met last year at a steppers weekend event in Pittsburgh, PA. Her story and passion moved me. I admire Mycah’s strength and influence in the good she has set out to do to raise awareness of this cancer and to support DIPG research for a cure.
DIPG
I did not know about or hear of DIPG, “Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma,” until meeting Mycah. She shared her experience about the loss of her very young daughter, Maiyanna, to this deadly cancer. She has turned what I call a tragedy for any mother into a selfless pledge and effort to help others facing the consequences and suffering of DIPG. Mycah established a scholarship in her daughter’s name to support students in DIPG research. Mycah’s efforts have already made a difference and most importantly, progress in research at the University of Stanford.
