Competition is at the heart of the steppin’ community and whether it is on the social scene or the big stage, steppers love to “show their stuff” and compete in Chicago Stepping contests. A few annual stepper contests take place in Chicago and other cities like Milwaukee and Detroit. Contests occur throughout every season of the year. The most popular contests happen to be in the late summer and fall. Several steppers compete in contests regularly every year, but there is always some new face that pops up to pay attention that judges hope to see shake things up and keep the competitive spirit and creativity alive and growing. There are contests for every level of experience – even beginners.
It’s important to know the different types of contests and categories too if you want to enter stepper contests. I have entered contests a few times and still do and share about those times in my blog. If you’re ready or thinking to compete, don’t hesitate, do it! Find a good partner, practice, and leave it all on the stage. You’ve gotta love this dance! Some of the annual contests include The Get Down in Chicago (Spring – Summer), Milwaukee’s Steppers Contest (Summer – Fall), World’s Largest Steppers Contest in Chicago (Fall), Ed Watson Red Steppers Affair Contest (Spring) in Indiana, DarkKim Contest in Chicago (Summer), and Champions of the Dance Floor (Spring).

WORLD’S LARGEST STEPPERS CONTEST WINNERS HISTORY
Started in 1990, the World’s Largest Steppers Contest is in Chicago. This contest brings elite steppers to the stage across different categories. A competition for bragging rights, money, and trophies.
THE TEXAS HEAT CONTEST WINNERS HISTORY
2021 was the first year for the Texas Heat, a contest sponsored and hosted by the Nikee Experience (Nikee and Cristal Carman). The contest is hosted in Houston, Texas.
